Aphrodite completed a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) at Western Sydney University; and continued education in Drawing at National Art School, Bookbinding at the NSW Guild of Craft Bookbinders, and Letterpress Printing at The Penrith Museum of Printing. Aphrodite’s work is informed and inspired by human experiences, identity and culture. Her purpose as an artist is to inspire and be inspired. She creates meaning and connections through a hybrid art practice that incorporates writing, drawing, photography, film, print, and digital media with a focus on publication as a creative outcome. Aphrodite takes pride in her Filipino heritage and she weaves the culture of ‘bayanihan’ (community) into all areas of her work and life. She is passionate about empowering under-represented voices, using her own lived experience and artistic skills to harness their creativity, enabling them to shape their own narratives.
Aphrodite started Illographo Press in 2021 to help create a more accessible and sustainable publishing model for herself and other Filipinx, South East Asian, and BIPOC creatives. Since then, Illographo Press publications have been showcased at the NGV Melbourne Art Book Fair, Athens Zine Bibliotheque, Grafixx Fest in Belgium, and Franzineist Vienna.
Aphrodite is a current resident at the Arts & Cultural Exchange in Parramatta where she runs Illographo Press and Wolfbound Books - an independent book studio dedicated to independent and self-publishers. She also facilitates the School of Zines – a monthly zine-making workshop spotlighting Western Sydney creatives.
